The Town of Tryon has many special events planned to celebrate it's 125th Birthday including a parade, exhibits, the opening of the Toymakers Museum, and many other fun activities. Not to be missed is this terrific concert on Saturday afternoon from 2-7 PM on McCown Street in downtown Tryon, right next to the Nina Simone sculpture. All of the performers have a connection to Tryon. If there is rain, the concert will take place across the street in the Tryon Theatre. 2 pm Joyce Breeden Joyce will be on vocals and guitar. Her music is a personal mix of folk, traditional, country, blues and original songs. We are lucky to have Joyce back in our area! She is highly regarded by many discriminating local listeners. This will be a perfect way for her to see old friends, and meet many new ones. 3 pm Cabell Brand Cabell is a talented songwriter and performer and will be on solo guitar and vocals. He will be a senior this year at Polk County High, but don't let his youth fool you; he has played a number of shows and never fails to move the crowd with his open, honest performances. And on a special note, this concert takes place on his 17th birthday! 4 pm Wishgrove They are a rock band that writes, records, and performs their own music. They were recently described as a "melodic avant-garde power trio." The band features Tony Bell on drums, Mark McCullough on bass and back-up vocals, and Tryon's Rich Nelson on vocals, guitar, and keyboards. They have just released their first full-length CD 'I Lost My Head', which can be found on iTunes, CDBaby, and Wishgrove.com. 5 pm Phoenix Road & Noah Stockdale This new band from Asheville features Doug Russell on vocals and guitar, Larry Rankine on drums, and Tryon's Lee Stockdale on vocals and harmonica. Lee's son Noah will perform a few of his excellent songs in the set too! Noah is a singer/songwriter whose talent and intelligence connects with audiences immediately. 6 pm The Antibodies From Spartanburg, this band will play their finely crafted alternative rock. The group features Tom Conder on vocals, Kevin Jameson on bass, Mark Branyon on guitar, and Tryon's Lee Holroyd on drums. They have been playing their excellent music all over the Upstate and region for many years. What a great opportunity to see many talented local musicians, for free no less! There will be concessions available; food vendors, beer, wine, and soft drinks, as well as the many other events taking place in town that day as Tryon celebrates its 125th Birthday. Let's have some fun! For the full line up of events come to the Visitors' Tent on N Trade St., downtown Tryon.
